There is nothing better than being able to relax in your steamy hot Jacuzzi after a long day’s work but a lot of folks are using their hot tubs a lot less due to the ever rising cost of electricity in South Africa and the price tag that comes along with keeping your spa heated on a constant basis.

Well there is one great way to cheat the system and keep your Jacuzzi heated without it costing you a small fortune every month.

By capturing free energy from the sun with solar panels you are able to heat your spa in the same way a conventional heating system would but at a fraction of the cost.

Spa & Jacuzzi Solar Panels

The solar panels used to heat your Jacuzzi are similar to the ones commonly used to heat your swimming pool.

Because most hot tubs don't hold much water it is possible to reach temperatures of around 36 to 40˚C within only a couple of hours and by only using around 3 to 4 solar panels.

The only power required to heat the Jacuzzi is the electricity used to drive the circulation pump.

By cutting the heating element out of the equation you are able to save between 75 and 90% of your spa’s electrical running costs.

How Solar Panels Work On A Jacuzzi

The solar panels are installed on a preferably north facing roof where they can receive at least 6 to 10 hours of direct sunlight a day.

Next the panels are linked up to Jacuzzi’s pump system to enable the circulation of water up to the solar collectors. From here the heat energy is collected by the water flowing through the solar panels and transferred back to the hot tub.

The  overall water temperature is still regulated by inline thermostat connected to the spa’s pump system as normal.

While using a standard 4kw electrical heating system a hot tub will consume on average 4450 - 4750 watts an hour while in the process of heating up.

When converting to solar heating the same Jacuzzi will only use 450 - 750 watts while heating up, giving you a saving of around 4000 watts an hour!

The investment you make on the solar panels is thus easily made back by the massive savings you obtain every month in your electrical bill.

Heating your hot tub with solar panels is also the most environmentally friendly method of doing so.

Water flow control valves are fitted which allows the user to bypass the solar panels at night or on rainy days when there is no sunlight available to heat the Jacuzzi. At such times the spa’s standard electrical heating system can still be switched on as a back up or if a temperature boost is required.

The most cost effective way to heat your Jacuzzi with solar panels and free energy from the sun.
